UAB Quotes – December 20, 2017

Defensive Coordinator David Reeves
On the first two days of practice and being in the Bahamas…
“It’s a beautiful place. It’s hard to come to work every day, but our guys have done a good job of focusing. It’s easy to do when you think about who is lining up across from you and who you are up against. Ohio is averaging 38.9 points per game and that is terrifying.”

On what UAB is focusing on in trying to stop Ohio…
“They are huge and are physical. They will run it right at you and have a magical player back there that is running the show. He can beat you with his arm and can beat you with his legs. I would be worried enough if we were back home, let alone facing them in the Bahamas. We think the world of their football team and know it will be a good challenge for us on Friday.”

On the keys to success for the UAB defense…
“We have to do every tiny minute detail well. We need to match their energy and physicality the best we can. We are excited about the challenge.”

On his first two days at the Atlantis…
“It’s one of the most impressive places I’ve been to in my life. Our kids have enjoyed it. For me, I wish I had a little more time to enjoy it and a little less football to do (smiles). The times I have been able to walk around it has been magnificent and I know our guys have really enjoyed it.”

Senior CB Darious Williams
On his experience in the Bahamas two days in…
“It’s been a crazy experience. We got to swim with dolphins, but most of all we got out of Birmingham weather so we are out here in the sun. It’s nice and laid back, we get to pick up our feet a bit and have fun with our team and the other team. It’s been a great experience so far.”

On challenges the Ohio offense presents..
“They are real big, a physical running team. We are ready to be physical and are used to that physicality. As far as throwing the ball, we have played against teams like this before and are ready.”

On being a senior, wrapping up his career at the Bahamas Bowl…
“I’m going out in style, going out in glory. I’m really mostly happy for guys like Shaq [Jones] and Tevin Crews, they have been around longer than me. There is no better way to go out than in the Bahamas with Coach Clark and these guys.”

Freshman LB Thomas Johnston
On his experience in the Bahamas two days in…
“Really just a blessing to be here with UAB, having this opportunity for our first bowl back. Everyone has been very welcoming. Fun entertainment – the slides are awesome. It’s one of the prettiest beaches in the world. .”

On his favorite part of the trip so far…
“Just being able to relax. It’s a vacation and also a business trip. We’ve had a lot of time to relax and a lot of free time. It’s nice to be able to do that for the first time all year and to are able to enjoy our bowl game.”

On being a LB against the Ohio offense…
“We have to stop the run. We have to be physical up front in the box. We all need to do our jobs. If we do that we do our job we will have a good chance to stop the run and that’s our plan.”
