The camp, which was directed by Cincinnati St. Xavier High School head football coach Steve Specht, brought several young boys and girls from the community to participate in the clinic. The Bulls and 49ers helped by coaching the children through a variety of drills and competitions.

Specht had the children participate in passing/receiving drills, open field tackling drills, running back ladder drills, agility drills, and a modified flag football game. The clinic ended with a touchdown dance competition.

“This is fantastic. Are you kidding me? I don’t know who is having more fun – myself, the players from Charlotte or Buffalo, or the kids that are actually running through the camp,” said Specht. “This is just exciting for USA Football to come down to the Bahamas and to be able to spread the game we all love so very much.”

The student athletes also loved getting to give back to the young Bahamian children.

“Today is a great experience, giving the kids something they’ve never seen before,” said Buffalo freshman linebacker Rich Miller. “They’re so amazed at us. It felt good to be able to give them this experience. They had a whole lot of fun competing. I taught them all sorts of things like double reverses and things like that, so it was real fun.”

“It’s so cool. This is an opportunity of a lifetime, and I wouldn’t rather spend it any other way,” said Charlotte redshirt senior linebacker Jeff Gemmell. “Being able to come back and give to the community to kids who love playing football – the game that I’m so passionate about – it’s just amazing. Being in a different country, being able to come out here and give back to these kids is a blessing and I’m just thankful for it.”

The teams will have their final day of preparation tomorrow before Friday’s 2 pm kickoff in the Makers Wanted Bahamas Bowl.
